The year starts of with Olympic qualifying tournament in hockey.

The year 2024 is set to be a pivotal one for Indian sports, with it being an Olympic year. Athletes across various sports will strive to qualify for Paris Olympics, and India is slated to host a plethora of events, ranging from badminton to cricket. The first significant event will be the Women’s Hockey Olympic qualifier, scheduled to take place in Ranchi, Jharkhand, from January 13th to 19th.

Indian women’s team will aim to secure their Olympic berth by finishing in the top three, leveraging the home crowd advantage and facilities.

Following this, the India Open (Super 750) will be crucial for Indian shuttlers seeking to accumulate vital points for Olympic qualification. In addition to the Super 750 tournament, India will also host three more tournaments, including a Super 300 and two Super 100 tournaments, scheduled for November and December.

In February, India will host several hockey Pro League matches, serving as valuable practice before the Olympics. Teams from Spain, the Netherlands, Australia, and Ireland in the men’s section, along with women’s teams from China, the Netherlands, Australia, and the USA, are scheduled to travel to India. The tournament will be held in two cities, Bhubaneswar and Rourkela.

India has also retained the hosting rights for the WTT Star Contender, which will take place in Goa in January. Another major event to be held in India is the U-20 Chess Junior Championships, scheduled for June in New Delhi. Several Indian youngsters, including Gukesh, Praggnanandhaa, and Nihal, will be looking to make their mark.

India will also host the SAFF Athletics Championships in both the senior and junior categories, in Ranchi and Chennai respectively. Furthermore, India is set to host a Moto GP event, the Indian Grand Prix, at Greater Noida from September 20th to 22nd.

In addition to these sports, India will host several cricket bilateral series this year. As of now, men’s teams from Afghanistan, England, New Zealand, and Bangladesh, along with the West Indies women’s team, are scheduled to travel to India.
