Indian Football Calendar 2024: Major tournaments to look forward to in January

Indian Football Team will face formidable Australia, Uzbekistan & Syria in the AFC Asian Cup this month.

The dawn of a new year brings new treats for Indian football fans, who will be able to witness a lot of action over the course of January. Even though the Indian Super League (ISL) is on a hiatus, there are still many high-profile matches that will be on show over the next 30 days or so.

Here is a look at the full calendar for Indian Football in January 2024.

AFC Asian Cup

The biggest tournament that will be on display for Indian football in January will be the AFC Asian Cup, which is scheduled to be held in Qatar. India have been placed in a tough group alongside Australia, Uzbekistan and Syria & will be fighting against the odds to make it past the group stages for the first time ever.

  • January 13: India vs Australia
  • January 18: India vs Uzbekistan
  • January 23: India vs Syria

Kalinga Super Cup

Even though the ISL will not be happening in January, all the clubs involved will get a chance to fight for more silverware in the form of the Kalinga Super Cup. This will be held at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. It will involve all the ISL sides as well as four teams from the I-League.

  • January 8: Super Cup Qualifier (Inter Kashi vs Rajasthan United)
  • January 9-January 22: Super Cup Group Stages
  • January 28: Super Cup final

Indian Women’s League

The Indian Women’s Football fans will also get a lot of action in the form of the top football division for female footballers. Kickstart FC are the current leaders after only a few rounds of matches in the 2023-24 season and the IWL campaign will resume soon after the start of January.

  • January 4-January 30: League stage matches

National Football Championship

The first-ever edition of the U-20 National Football Championship will be held in January. It will be a youth-level tournament for which the participating players will need to be born on and after January 1, 2005 and not later than 31 December, 2007 to be eligible to play. The exact number of teams or schedule has not been revealed yet.

  • January-February 2024

U-17 AIFF Youth League

The U-17 AIFF Youth League has proven to be a solid initiative to help young footballers get more competitiveness and exposure around the country and the campaign will continue onwards in January. A total of 37 teams have been separated into six groups and the group stages will continue onto this month too.

  • January 4-January 25: Group stage matches
