The Indian men’s hockey team are among those who have already qualified.

The Paris Olympics 2024 is less than half a year away and several athletes across the globe have assured themselves a spot for the mega event. In the previous edition 124 Indians across various sporting events took part in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 which was the largest contingent to take part till date at the Olympics. This time the number is set to increase exponentially with the many athletes setting higher standards.

Till now, Indians athletes in Athletics (9) and Shooting (16) have secured most quotas for Paris Olympics 2024. A point to be noted here is that in Shooting the quota is acquired by the NOC – in this case it is NRAI (National Rifle Association of India). After the end of qualification cycle, NRAI shall conduct trials and the best performing shooters will be given a chance to represent India.

In Athletics, four race walkers have secured their qualification to the mega event followed by poster boy Neeraj Chopra in men’s Javelin. The reigning Olympic gold medalist secured his qualification after recording a season best throw of 88.77m in the qualifying rounds in the World Athletics Championships 2023. Similarly, Parul Chaudhary too qualified after clocking a personal best and national record time in women’s Steeplechase at World Championships.

Commonwealth Games silver medalist Avinash Sable secured a quota after finishing sixth at the Silesia Diamond League by clocking 08:11.63. On the other hand, the Shooting contingent are way ahead in terms of numbers, with 16 shooters across rifle/pistol and shotgun have secured qualification. Youngster Rudrankksh Patil was the first to obtain quota in the men’s 10m Air Rifle event at the ISSF World Championships 2022.
