Indian Sports Calendar in 2023: Major events to look forward to in November

Several Olympic qualifiers are lined up this month.

The month of November promises to be a busy affair for Indian sports with several major events lined up in the Indian sports calendar. Two events - Asian Archery Championship and Asian Sport Climbing qualifiers are set to offer Paris Olympics qualifying spots. The badminton action shifts back to Asia after a month-long European leg ahead of the BWF World Tour finals.

Athletics

All the top youngsters from the U-20 category will be looking to breach the qualifying mark for the upcoming world junior athletics championships scheduled to be held next year.

  • November 07-10: Junior Athletics Championships 2023

Archery

The all-important Asian Archery Championship is scheduled to be in Bangkok, Thailand. This tournament provides Olympic quotas in the individual and team events and the best from Asia will be taking part in it. Olympian Tarundeep Rai makes his way into the Indian team after having missed out for the Asian Games 2023.

  • November 4-10: Asian Archery Championship

Badminton

A total of four BWF World Tour tournaments are scheduled to be held in November. These will be the last set of tournaments ahead of the year-ending BWF World Finals where the top eight shuttlers/pairs from this season will vie for the season-ending title.

  • November 7-12: Korea Masters (BWF 300)
  • November 14-19: Japan Masters (BWF 500)
  • November 21-26: China Masters (BWF 750)
  • November 28-03 December: Syed Modi International (BWF 300)

Cricket

The Men's ODI ICC World Cup bandwagon is proceeding into its final stages. Hosts India have won six successive matches and look set to finish the group stages with an unbeaten record. South Africa is the next best placed team having won five out of the six matches played.

Fencing

Star Indian fencer Bhavani Devi and Karan Singh alongside few other fencers are set to participate in different competitions this month. Bhavani Devi clinched the National Games 2023 title last month and is currently third from the continent to get qualified for Paris Olympics. Meanwhile, Karan Singh lost to experienced Gisho Nidhi (14-15) in men's sabre final at National Games.

  • November 9-11: Sabre Coupe de Monde, Algeria
  • November 10-11: Epee Coupe de Monde, Italy
  • November 10-11: Epee Coupe de Monde, Switzerland
  • November 10-11: Foil Coupe de Monde, Turkey

Football

The ISL season 10 has entered its sixth week with most teams having completed five matches each. After the current week, all the teams will have the chance to regroup once again with a three-week international break in place. The domestic action resumes on November 25th.

Rugby

The ultimate victors of both the men’s and women’s competitions will secure direct qualification for the Rugby Sevens event at 2024 Paris Olympics. Meanwhile, the second and third-placed teams will have the opportunity to participate in the final Olympics Repechage tournament.

  • November 18-19: Rugby Sevens Asian Qualifier

Sport Climbing

The Asian Olympic qualifiers for sports climbing is scheduled to be held in Indonesia in the first week of this month. National Record holder from Karnataka, Deepu Gowda, is set to take part in the competition.

  • November 9-12: Asian Olympic Qualifiers

Shooting

After four years absence the ISSF World Cup final is back into the calendar year. All three shooting categories - Rifle, Pistol, and Shot Gun events will be conducted by the Qatar Shooting Federation. The athletes who have performed consistently throughout the season will feature in the competition.

  • November 18-27: ISSF World Cup Finals

Table Tennis

Harmeet Desai and Manav Thakkar are the top two Indians to receive direct entry for the upcoming WTT Contender in Taiyuan, China. Manika Batra, top ranked Indian women's player, has given the tournament a miss.

  • November 07-12: WTT Contender Taiyuan, China

Tennis

Rohan Bopanna alongside his partner from Australia Matthew Ebden are scheduled to participate in the year-ending ATP Finals. The Indian has won two Masters title this season and also reached the final of the last grand slam - US Open. He further went on to win a gold medal in mixed doubles category partnering Rutuja Bhosale at Asian Games 2023.
