Rahul Dravid’s tenure as India head coach came to an end with the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

It was a fairytale ending for the legendary cricketer Rahul Dravid, who finally won a senior men’s ICC title with the Indian cricket team as head coach. On June 29, the Rohit Sharma-led India won the thrilling ICC T20 World Cup 2024 title by defeating Aiden Markram’s South Africa by seven runs in the final in Barbados.

Under Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma, the Indian side ended their 11-year-long ICC title drought and also won the second T20 World Cup trophy after the inaugural edition in 2007.

Earlier, the legendary cricketer Dravid said that he will not re-apply for the post of head coach for the senior men’s cricket team and T20 World Cup 2024 will be the last assignment.

Under Dravid, India played in three ICC finals and lost two of them. The Men in Blue first played the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 final and then the ODI World Cup 2023 final in 2023, but lost both of them against Australia.

However, BCCI extended Dravid’s contract till the end of the T20 World Cup 2024, and this move by the management struck gold as Dravid helped the men’s team lift an ICC trophy after a span of 11 years.

Will move on quickly and will be unemployed from next week: Rahul Dravid

Interestingly, in the ODI World Cup 2007, Dravid captained the Indian side and had a horrific tournament when they suffered a group stage exit. To add to that, India suffered crushing defeats at the hands of Bangladesh. The tournament was held in the West Indies.

After almost 17 years, Dravid buried those horrific memories as he finally got his hands on the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy as head coach and ended his stint with the national side on a high note.

After winning the ICC T20 title, Dravid reacted to his departure from the Indian side as head coach. The legendary cricketer said that from next week he will be unemployed, but he will move on quickly after a memorable win.

“I will be able to move on quickly from this win, next week I will be unemployed (laughs). I don’t want to think too far ahead, but yes, I hope, I will be able to move on. I think that’s what life is all about,” Dravid said to PTI.
