The Indian cricket team have won the second-most number of ICC titles in senior men’s cricket.
The Indian cricket team are one of the most successful teams in the history of cricket, and they have been a growing power in the 21st century. Be it at the Under-19 level or senior men’s cricket, Team India have done well overall.
In fact, the senior men’s Indian cricket team are the second-most successful team in history after Australia in terms of the number of ICC titles won.
India won their maiden ICC title when Kapil Dev led India to victory in the 1983 World Cup. India didn’t win another ICC trophy for the next 18 years, but then after 2001, they added five more titles.
In this article, we will talk about all the ICC tournaments that the Indian cricket team have won so far.
Four Indian captains have attained the honour of leading the nation to success in an ICC event, with MS Dhoni collecting the most ICC trophies among them. So let’s check out this elite list of moments in Indian cricket’s white-ball history.

1. ICC Cricket World Cup 1983

Team India started the tournament brilliantly under Kapil Dev, beating defending champions West Indies in their first game. But they lost two out of their next three matches, which put them in a must-win situation. Then, in a must-win game, India were 17/5 against Zimbabwe when Kapil played one of the most iconic World Cup innings of 175* runs off 138 balls and helped India win the game.
That win gave India huge confidence. In the final, they beat West Indies for the second time in the tournament and lifted their maiden ICC title. They also became only the second nation to win the ICC Cricket World Cup as West Indies had won the first two editions.
2. ICC Champions Trophy 2002

The Indian cricket team won their second ICC title under Sourav Ganguly’s captaincy when they were declared joint-winners along with Sri Lanka in the ICC Champions Trophy 2002.
A total of 12 teams participated in the tournament, which was held in Sri Lanka. The Indian cricket team beat Zimbabwe and England in the group stage.
They beat South Africa in the semi-final by 8 wickets. India faced Sri Lanka in the final. However, the scheduled day of the final was a washout, and the game went to reserve day. The reserve day was also washout out and a result could not be achieved. Hence, both India and Sri Lanka were announced as joint-winners. Virender Sehwag (271) scored most runs for India in the tournament.
3. ICC T20 World Cup 2007

The ICC T20 World Cup 2007 ushered Indian cricket into the MS Dhoni era as India won the inaugural edition against the expectations of most. India edged past Pakistan in a bowl-out in their second group game to qualify for the Super 8. Their only loss in the tournament came against New Zealand.
India registered consecutive wins against England and South Africa to make it into the semis. In the semi-final, Yuvraj Singh blew Australia away. The final against Pakistan had a tense finish in the last over, but India held their nerves to win it by five runs and lift the title.
4. ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

The next ICC title for India came in 2011 when MS Dhoni led his side to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 trophy at home. India were favourites going into the tournament, but that only added more pressure. They lost only one game in the tournament, against South Africa and their encounter against England ended in a tie.
India beat Australia in the quarter-final and Pakistan in the semifinal. In the final, India edged past Sri Lanka by six wickets, with MS Dhoni finishing the game with a six and bringing joy to the nation. Yuvraj Singh was the standout performer in the tournament and duly won the Man of the Tournament award.
5. ICC Champions Trophy 2013

Dhoni won his third ICC title as captain when India lifted the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 in England. India won all their matches. India beat South Africa, West Indies and Pakistan in the group stage.
Then they registered a comfortable eight-wicket win against Sri Lanka in the semi-final. The final was a close contest against England, but India kept their nerves and won by only five runs while defending 129 in 20 overs (the match was shortened to a 20-over contest due to rain). Shikhar Dhawan won the Player of the Series award for scoring the most runs (363).
6. ICC T20 World Cup 2024

Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, the Indian cricket team won their sixth ICC title by securing the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 trophy. This ended India’s 11-year wait for an ICC silverware.
India made history by becoming the first team to win a men’s T20 World Cup tournament without conceding a single loss.
The Indian cricket team beat teams like England, Australia, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. In the final, they beat South Africa, who had also won all their games to reach the final.
