MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma are the only Indian captains to win ICC T20 World Cup.

Veteran Indian opener Rohit Sharma thanked legendary cricketer MS Dhoni for his heartwarming message after the Indian cricket team won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. On June 29, the Men in Blue won thrilling final against South Africa by seven runs at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados.

Interestingly, under the leadership of Dhoni, India clinched their maiden ICC T20 World Cup, and a young Rohit was part of that squad when they defeated arch-rivals Pakistan in the final by five runs in the 2007 edition. After almost 17 years, under the leadership of Rohit, Men in Blue won their second T20 World Cup and ended their 11-year ICC title drought.

After India clinched their second T20 title, 2007 World T20 winning skipper Dhoni congratulated Men in Blue for their thrilling victory over the Aiden Markram-led South Africa in Barbados.

Dhoni shared a heartwarming post on Instagram and captioned the post: “WORLD CUP CHAMPIONS 2024.My heart rate was up,well done on being calm, having the self belief and doing what u guys did. From all the Indians back home and everywhere in the world a big thank you for bringing the World Cup Home.CONGRATULATIONS.arreeee thanks for the priceless birthday gift.”

Shockingly, after Virat Kohli announced his T20I retirement, Rohit joined him as he also bid adieu to T20I cricket after winning his second ICC T20 World Cup trophy. Kohli announced his T20I retirement during the post-match presentation, whereas Rohit announced the decision during post-match press conference.

After winning the match against South Africa, the former T20I skipper, Rohit, thanked Dhoni for the wishes and acknowledged him for what he had done for the national side during his playing days. Under the leadership of Dhoni, India won the T20 World Cup in 2007, the ODI World Cup in 2011, and the Champions Trophy in 2013.

“Dhoni used to be a fabulous player. He did a lot for us and the country. I felt good that he appreciated us,” Rohit said after the match.
