Salah will join Egypt for AFCON 2023

This year, Mohamed Salah has been unstoppable for Liverpool as he constantly terrorises Premier League defences.

Sadly, the Reds’ sniper will be away in the Ivory Coast for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, so he won’t be available until early in 2024. Because his team is still fighting in four areas, Jurgen Klopp may have to pay a heavy price for the winger’s absence.

At the next AFCON, Salah will be seeking retribution after his Egypt team fell to Senegal in the last final on penalties. Despite holding the previous record, the Pharaohs haven’t prevailed in the match since 2010.

When will Mohamed Salah play again for Liverpool after 2023 AFCON?

Salah’s return to Merseyside will be determined by how far Egypt advances in the AFCON, although he will undoubtedly be missing until his team’s last group game on January 22. Though it is expected that the seven-time champions will advance far in the competition, they are probably going to make it to the knockout stage.

Salah would be absent until February 11 if Egypt replicates their 2021 AFCON performance and advances to the championship game. The Reds forward would not be accessible to Klopp after February 10th, following the third-place play-off, regardless of whether the Pharaohs merely advance to the semi-final.

With Egypt’s calibre and prior AFCON triumphs, Salah is unlikely to return to Anfield until the middle of February.

Which Liverpool games will Salah miss?

Salah’s international duties will cause him to miss at least four Liverpool games if not more.

The winger would only miss the Reds’ FA Cup match against Arsenal, their Premier League trip to Bournemouth, and their two Carabao Cup semi-final games against Fulham if Egypt were to miraculously exit the group round.

He might miss a further match, though, if Arsenal were to force Liverpool to face an FA Cup replay.

Salah is expected to miss a minimum of seven Liverpool games, possibly a few crucial ones, if he advances to the semifinals or further. In addition to the four previously stated encounters, the Egyptian would miss matches in the Premier League against Chelsea, Arsenal, and Burnley before returning on February 17 against Brentford.

No matter the outcome of the match, Klopp’s team will be much missing Salah and his goal contributions, but the Premier League trip to the Emirates Stadium on February 4 may be very important for them in the quest for the championship.
