The Indian football team made its debut in the AFC Asian Cup in 1964 after qualifying, marking India’s most successful campaign in the tournament. In addition to this, India has also participated in four more editions, including the upcoming 2023 event.

Other than the most recent edition, India has participated in the 1984, 2011, and 2019 editions of the tournament. The team’s longest wait to qualify for the tournament was from 1984 to 2011, during which the Blue Tigers had to wait for 27 years to secure a spot.

Here is a statistical data that will highlight India’s performance over the year in AFC Asian Cup.

India has participated in a total of 13 matches across four editions of the AFC Asian Cup. Their record includes three victories, nine defeats, and one draw.

The Indian team has scored a total of 12 goals in the AFC Asian Cup. Their highest goal tally in a single edition was in 1964, when they scored five goals. However, in the 1984 edition, they failed to score at all.

In regard to conceding goals, the Indian team has allowed a total of 27 goals across four editions. The highest number of goals conceded was during the 2011 edition, where they allowed 13 goals and only managed to score three in response.

India’s prominent forward, Sunil Chhetri, continues to hold the position of the top goal scorer for India in the AFC Asian Cup. Having participated in the 2011 and 2019 editions previously, he has successfully netted four goals for the team.

Moreover, this tally of Chhetri can move ahead as he is also part of the upcoming edition.
