Qatar produced a stellar performance against Lebanon in the AFC Asian Cup 2023 opener.

The highly anticipated 2023 AFC Asian Cup commenced today. The opening match took place at the Lusail Stadium in Doha, where the host nation Qatar secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Lebanon in a one-sided contest.

Both teams are positioned in Group A alongside China and Tajikistan. The remaining two teams are set to compete in their respective match tomorrow. Additionally, Group B fixtures are also slated for the same day, with India taking on Australia in the first match, and Uzbekistan facing Syria in the second.

Group A

After emerging victorious over Lebanon in the initial match, Qatar have secured the leading position in Group A with three points, while Lebanon lag behind following their defeat.

In the upcoming match between China and Tajikistan, the victorious team will secure the top position, contingent upon the margin of victory. If the winning team’s margin is less than two goals, they will continue to trail behind Qatar.

Top Goal-scorers

As there has been only one match played in the 2023 AFC Asian Cup so far, the two goal-scorers have taken the top spot in the list.

Akram Afif opened the scoring in the 45th minute of the match, providing Qatar the lead before the conclusion of the first half. Subsequently, Almoez Ali extended the lead to two goals with a strike in the 56th minute, while Afif scored again to add his side’s third in the 96th minute of play.

Top Assist Providers

First two goals in the match were the result of two exceptional assists. The first assist was provided by Almoez Ali, who also scored the second goal of the match. The second assist was delivered by Mohammed Waad, contributing to Qatar’s victorious start in the tournament.
