Rahul Dravid issues clarification on Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer amid disciplinary action rumours
Indian head coach Rahul Dravid has issued clarification on the likes of Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer.
As the Indian camp was getting ready for their final T20I assignment before the ICC T20 World Cup in June, a big controversy was raked up from inside the Indian dressing room. Ishan Kishan left the Indian camp just before the two-match Test series against South Africa. Ishan Kishan cited ‘mental fatigue’ for for pulling out of the big South African tour. Kishan was a constant figure in the Indian camp but he was not getting enough chances in the playing XI.
Earlier, it was reported that Ishan Kishan had been overlooked by selectors for T20I series against Afghanistan due to disciplinary issues. Now, Indian team head coach Rahul Dravid has come out and cleared the air around Ishan Kishan’s selection. Dravid said that there is no disciplinary action against Ishan Kishan and he was not selected for the three-match T20I series as he has not made himself available.
Dravid clarified on Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer
Indian head coach Rahul Dravid said, “There’s no disciplinary reason. Ishan wasn’t available for selection. He asked for a break in SA which we agreed to. He has not made himself available for selection as of yet”. Dravid further added that Ishan will play in the domestic cricket and make himself available for the international cricket. Ishan was reportedly spotted partying in Dubai.
Rahul Dravid also informed that Shreyas Iyer will not be playing against Afghanistan as there are plenty of options to deal with in Indian batting order. Dravid said, “In Shreyas Iyer’s case… There were a lot of batters in the team and he missed out. It is not easy to fit everyone.” Dravid also refused any disciplinary issue involving Shreyas Iyer as well.
Virat out for the 1st T20I
Virat Kohli will be missing out on the first T20I game against Afghanistan due to some personal reasons. His T20I return will be delayed by one game as he is expected to play the second T20I game at Holkar Stadium in Indore. Dravid also clarified that captain Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal will be given the role of openers of the side. Rohit Sharma will be making his comeback in the T20I side after 14 months.
