Sydney Sixers defeated Sydney Thunder in the 34th match of BBL 2023-24

Sydney Sixers have closed down the road for Sydney Thunder in the ongoing season of BBL. Sydney Thunder after a crushing defeat against Sydney Sixers in the Sydney derby are knocked out from the playoffs race. Sixers’ bowlers had a great day at SCG and defended a modest score of 151 runs. Left-arm spinner Steve O’Keefe bowled a magnificent spell in the powerplay and picked up two crucial wickets in the fifth over. Thunder couldn’t bounce back after the early blow.

This game became special as David Warner was marking his return for Sydney Thunder while Steve Smith was making his comeback for Sydney Sixers. Steve Smith was dismissed on a golden duck and David Warner showed a bit of fight for Thunder. David Warner scored 37 runs and became the third victim of Steve O’Keefe. Warner scored 37 runs in 39 balls with one four and two sixes. Steve O’Keefe delivered a magical spell of 3/13 in his quota of four overs.

Sydney Sixers have won the Sydney derby and moved up to the second place in the BBL 2023-24 points table. Sydney Sixers added two crucial points to their tally and are now at the second position with 12 points in nine games. Sixers have won five out of their nine league games and lost only two so far. Sydney Thunder struggles to get their campaign back on track as they suffer their sixth loss of the season in the eight league games played. Brisbane Heat remain the table toppers with 16 points while Melbourne Renegades placed bottom of the table with only three points.

Adelaide Strikers captain Mathew Short is top of the leading run-scorer list with 435 runs in eight innings. Adelaide Strikers’ Chris Lynn is second on the table with 304 runs in seven innings. Lynn didn’t play the last game against Hobart Hurricanes. Perth Scorchers’ Aaron Hardie is third on the table with 287 runs. Brisbane Heat skipper Colin Munro is in fourth spot with 224 runs. Sydney Sixers James Vince has jumped to the fifth place after his 27 runs knock against Sydney Thunder, he now has 222 runs under his name.
