Indian Cricket Team will play their opening game of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on June 5 against Ireland.

ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is all set to begin on June 1 in USA and West Indies. 20 teams will be competing for the coveted trophy. Team India will enter the tournament as one of the favourites to lift the trophy for the second time after the inaugural edition in 2007.

Team India haven’t won an ICC trophy since 2013. They lifted the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013 under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. They have played a number of knockout matches in between but couldn’t win, the recent one being the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Well, if they want to win the upcoming tournament, they need a strong group of players. Here we will talk about the predicted squad for India for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Indian Cricket Team 15-member squad for ICC T20 World Cup 2024 – Predicted

1. Rohit Sharma (C) :

The return of Rohit Sharma as India captain in the T20I series against Afghanistan has cleared the doubts of who will be leading India in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit is the perfect man to lead the team and he will be doing the same damage as he did in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

2. Yashasvi Jaiswal :

Yashasvi Jaiswal is among the nominated players for the “Emerging Player of the Year 2023” category because of his brilliant performances in 2023. He is another player in India’s plan for the upcoming ICC tournament. He can be the backup opener and his aggressive style of batting can give India a good balance of left-hand and right-hand batting options at the top.

3. Shubman Gill :

Although Shubman Gill hasn’t achieved much in T20Is, but he will be the guy India will bank on to perform at the top-order along with Rohit Sharma. Gill has been a pretty consistent player in limited-overs cricket and did well in IPL 2023. Hence, India will be taking him as the first-choice opener in the team.

4. Virat Kohli :

Virat Kohli’s return to the T20I series against Afghanistan means that he will be back in India’s for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which will surely be a confidence booster. Virat was the highest run- scorer in the 2022 edition in Australia and also has scored most runs in this format of the game. He is a run- machine and will be seen batting at No. 3 for India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

5. Suryakumar Yadav :

The No. 1 ranked T20I batter, Suryakumar Yadav, will be the key for India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He has been phenomenal in this format of the game, and there are not many who can match what he does in T20 cricket. A lot will depend on his form during the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, and India would want him to fire at the right time.

6. Rinku Singh :

India have found a special talent in Rinku Singh, who can come in and take the game away from the opposition in a span of a few overs. So far, he has done a remarkable job for India in the limited chances he has got. He is one of the front-runners to be picked for the coming World Cup 2024.

7. Jitesh Sharma (Wk) :

Jitesh Sharma is likely to be picked as the main wicket-keeper in the squad. He has been pretty impressive in the limited chances he has got for India. His ability to hit sixes and boundaries in the later stage of the game and can play as the finisher. KL Rahul who is the full-time keeper of India’s ODI and test team is another option, but his form in IPL 2024 will decide his inclusion in the squad.

8. Sanju Samson (Wk) :

Sanju Samson’s inclusion in the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan indicated that Indian management wants to back him in this format of the game. So there are chances that he can be the second-choice keeper in the squad. Ishan Kishan is on an indefinite break due to mental fatigue, and India have not given KL Rahul many chances in T20Is. So if Samson can show good form in the Afghanistan T20Is and IPL 2024, then he might get a place in the squad in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

9. Hardik Pandya (Vc) :

Hardik Pandya has been out of action due to an injury incurred in World Cup 2023 but is likely to be back for the IPL 2024. He will be the vice-captain of the team and his presence in the T20I cricket is invaluable. His all-round ability is a key factor for the team, and he will be among the first-choice players to be part of India’s squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

10. Ravindra Jadeja :

Ravindra Jadeja missed the last T20 World Cup in Australia due to an injury. But now, he is fit and also in good form. The pitches in West Indies will also suit him and his ability to bat makes him a vital cog of Indian team. Though Axar Patel and Washington Sundar also come with similar skillset but India are likely to prefer the experienced Ravindra Jadeja.

11. Kuldeep Yadav :

Kuldeep Yadav can be very lethal on slow pitches in West Indies. He has been in good form recently and is India’s specialist spinner in white-ball cricket. Kuldeep comes up with a number of variations which helps him decieve the opposition batters. Rohit Sharma will use him as a wicket-taking option in the middle.

12. Ravi Bishnoi :

Ravi Bishnoi won the Player of the Series award during the T20I series against Australia at home in December 2023. The batters found it hard to pick Bishnoi’s bowling. He is a very smart bowler who likes to bowl wicket-to-wicket and follow the batsmen. Bishnoi will give India another leg-spinning option, which is very important against batters in T20Is.

13. Jasprit Bumrah :

Jasprit Bumrah was injured during the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia and missed the tournament. But his presence is very important for India. He has a good record in the West Indies across different formats of the game and will be the leader of the pack. Bumrah’s presence will surely be a threat to the opposition.

14. Mohammed Siraj :

Mohammed Siraj has emerged as a brilliant bowler for India in the last couple of years in all the formats of the game. He has improved a lot and is now a very important part of the team. Siraj will be the new ball bowler in T20Is and will be part of the squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Siraj has done well in T20Is for India and will be looking to make an impact.

15. Arshdeep Singh :

Arshdeep Singh will add the left-arm pace-bowling option to Indian bowling attack. He was the leading wicket-taker for India in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Arshdeep has been in good form and will be the death bowler for India along with Bumrah. Arshdeep will be a sure pick for India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
