She finished 4th at the recently concluded Asian Games.
In a major news from Indian weightlifting, Tokyo Olympic silver medallist, Mirabai Chanu, has further delayed her return to the arena and is all set to miss the upcoming Asian Weightlifting Championships 2024 which is scheduled to be held in February.
She is currently recovering from a hip tendinitis injury which she sustained during the Asian Games earlier in October. The athlete from Manipur missed out on finishing on the podium as she finished fourth in the quadrennial extravaganza.
Moreover, Mirabai Chanu registered her name at the ongoing IWF Grand Prix II but did not lift any weight as she was aiming to return for the Asian Championships. In an interaction with The Print Mirabai Chanu said, I will not participate in the Asian Championships this time. Instead will participate in the World Cup.”
In the past, Mirabai has traveled to the USA to get her rehab done under former weightlifter turned physical therapist Dr. Aaron Horschig. However, currently the athlete is undergoing rehab at NIS Patiala. “Right now because of injury, I have not planned for a trip abroad. But most likely in February, I will travel to the USA to my physiotherapist to do muscle strengthening and some high performance training.”
Missing the Asian Championships will not hamper Mirabai’s chances of qualification for Paris Olympics as she is currently stationed in the second spot in Olympic Qualification Rankings (OQR).
