Anshul Jubli: New Indian MMA sensation in UFC
Anshul Jubli was born on January 13, 1995. He hails from the serene town of Dehradun, nestled in the state of Uttarakhand, India. With an undeniable passion for mixed martial arts (MMA), he has risen through the ranks to become a prominent figure in the world of combat sports. Jubli's journey from the hills of Uttarakhand to the international stage of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is a testament to his unwavering determination and skill.
Army brat
Born into a family with ties to the Border Security Force (BSF), Jubli's childhood was marked by frequent relocations across various states in India. His family's eventual settlement in Dehradun provided the stability he needed to pursue his dreams. In his pursuit of joining the Indian Army, he embarked on the challenging path of preparing for the Combined Defense Service (CDS) and Services Selection Board (SSB) examinations. However, fate had different plans for him, leading him to the electrifying world of MMA.
From Mathematician to Martial Artist
Jubli's academic journey led him to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University. Before his transformation into a fierce MMA contender, he worked as a school teacher. Yet, the allure of the octagon proved irresistible. In 2017, his curiosity was piqued when he stumbled upon MMA videos on YouTube featuring renowned instructors like Firas Zahabi and John Danaher. With a friend by his side, he began reenacting moves and delving into the intricacies of the sport.
The absence of training facilities in his hometown prompted Anshul Jubli to seek training at Crosstrain Fight Club in Delhi. Here, under the guidance of Siddharth Singh, he honed his ground game and focused on his strength and conditioning with Deepak Karai. To complement his repertoire, he joined Tokas Boxing Club, under the tutelage of amateur boxer Rohit Tokas, to sharpen his boxing skills. His dedication and drive caught the attention of Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff, leading him to join the ranks of Matrix Fight Night (MFN), a promotion founded by Shroff himself.
MMA Career
Jubli's professional MMA journey kicked off at Matrix Fight Night (MFN), where he showcased his skills with finesse. His debut in 2019 marked the beginning of a series of victories, each displaying his evolving prowess. From a decision victory over Sanjeet Budhwar to a TKO triumph against Rajith Chandran in Dubai, Jubli consistently demonstrated his versatility and determination. The year 2022 marked a turning point as he ventured into the Road to UFC Lightweight Tournament.
Road to UFC
The Road to UFC tournament provided Jubli with the platform to shine on the global stage. Overcoming adversities and challenges, he reached the semifinals, securing his spot in the spotlight. An intense matchup against South Korean Kyung Pyo Kim resulted in a split-decision victory, propelling him to the finals. The grand finale saw him face Indonesia's Jeka Saragih at UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Spivak.
With a remarkable display of skill, Jubli secured victory via TKO in the second round, a performance that earned him the coveted Performance of the Night accolade and a prestigious contract with the UFC. This achievement solidified his position as the second Indian fighter to join the UFC and the first to secure a victory within its hallowed octagon.
