France set up final with Germany in U17 FIFA World Cup after win over Mali

Germany defeated Argentine 4-2 on penalties in the semifinal

The Mali U-17 national team’s campaign at the U17 FIFA World Cup comes to an end on Tuesday afternoon at Manahan Stadium in Surakata when they were defeated 1-2 by France.

The young Eaglets, who eliminated Morocco in the quarterfinals, have had an incredible campaign thus far and are the only African team left in the competition.

Thanks to 16-year-old Ibrahim Diarra, who is among the greatest players in the tournament thus far, Soumaïla Coulibaly’s team nonetheless got off to a strong start against France, starting up a lead in the first half’s extra time (45+1).

But within ten minutes of the second half (the 55th), Souleymane Sanogo’s red card proved to be the match’s pivotal moment.

A minute later (in the 56th), Yvann Titi defeated Bourama Kone to give the French the equaliser thanks to their advantage.

In the 69th minute, Ismail Bouneb scored a second goal to give France a 2-1 victory. At the Manahan Stadium in Surakarta, Indonesia on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Germany defeated Argentina 4-2 on penalties after the score was tied 3-3 after normal time. This victory advanced Germany to the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2023 final.

The final will take place in Surakarta on Saturday. A day earlier, Argentina and Mali will square off in the playoffs for the third spot in the same city.
