Uday Saharan will lead team India in the upcoming U19 World Cup 2024 in South Africa.

India’s cricket fans are eagerly await the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, which will take place in South Africa from January to February 2024. Despite initial hurdles and change in host nation from Sri Lanka to South Africa. India, the defending champions, are gearing up for another exciting campaign.

Indian team will witness Uday Pratap Saharan, the 12th captain to lead the U19 team on the global stage. Yash Dhull led the team in the last World Cup, and this time around all eyes will be on Uday Pratap Saharan to bring back the trophy.

India announce U19 World Cup squad

Hailing from Ganganagar, Rajasthan, Uday’s cricketing journey led him to Punjab at the age of 14, driven by a desire to make a mark in the sport. Over the past five years, he has climbed up the ranks, representing Punjab in the U-14, U-16, and U-19 categories. The middle-order batsman earned his leadership role after a stellar performance in the Challengers Trophy, scoring an impressive 297 runs in five matches while captaining India B team.

Uday’s cricketing roots run deep, being the son of an Ayurveda doctor and a former cricketer. Encouraged by his father, Uday moved from representing Fazilka to Bathinda, where the infrastructure provided by the Punjab Cricket Association played a crucial role in shaping his skills.

Indian team are currently playing the U19 Asia Cup in Dubai. India have won two games out of three and lost one against arch-rivals, Pakistan. Uday has scored 80 runs in total, with a stellar performance against Pakistan where he scored 60 runs.

The excitement builds as the India U19 squad gears up for a tri-series in South Africa against England and the host nation before their U19 World Cup journey begins. The tri-series, commencing on December 29, 2023, will serve as vital preparation for the young squad. In the World Cup, India find themselves in group A alongside Bangladesh, Ireland, and the USA, with their opening match against Bangladesh in Bloemfontein on January 20, 2024.

As Uday Saharan leads the charge, India aims for yet another triumphant campaign in the U19 Cricket World Cup, showcasing the talent and potential of their budding cricketers on the global stage.
