Virat Kohli won Player of the Match in the finals, while Jasprit Bumrah was adjudged Player of the Tournament.

During felicitation ceremony of the Indian Cricket Team at the Wankhede Stadium on July 4, star batter Virat Kohli massively praised premium fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Notably, Bumrah’s brilliant performance with the ball in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 earned him Player of the Tournament award, where India clinched their second T20 World Cup title.

Bumrah’s performance with the ball will be remembered as one of the greatest bowling performances in T20 World Cup history. In the T20 World Cup 2024, the 30-year-old Bumrah claimed 15 wickets at an average of 8.26 and finished with a superb economy rate of just 4.17, which is the best among those who bowled a minimum of 20 overs in the T20 World Cup 2024.

The Indian Cricket Team finally arrived in their home country after being struck in Barbados for the past three days due to Hurricane Beryl. The BCCI secretary Jay Shah arranged a special chartered flight to bring back all the squad members, their family members, along with media personnel.

The Rohit Sharma-led side reached New Delhi on July 4 around 6:00 AM. Team India then met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence, then departed for Mumbai in the afternoon earlier today.

The Men in Blue reached Mumbai in the evening and received a grand welcome at the airport. After that, the Men in Blue took an open-bus ride to the iconic Wankhede Stadium to celebrate with the fans. At the Wankhede, a special ceremony was arranged by the BCCI to felicitate the T20 World Cup 2024-winning players.

Once in a lifetime bowler, luck he plays for us: Virat Kohli on Jasprit Bumrah

During the felicitation ceremony at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on July 4, Virat Kohli said that Bumrah is a once-in-a-lifetime bowler, and India are lucky that he is playing for the nation. The former Indian T20I cricketer Kohli also thanked Mumbai crowd who gathered on the streets and at the stadium.

“Firstly, a big thank you to all the people who were on the streets and at the stadium. Will never forget this. At one point, we also felt like, ‘Man, is it gonna slip again..’. And at that moment. What i’d like to do is to applaud a guy, who brought us into the games again and again and again in the tournament,” Kohli said.

And what he did…what he did in the last five overs, bowling two out of those five, it was phenomenal… A huge round of applause for Jasprit Bumrah. He’s once in a lifetime bowler and we’re lucky he plays for us,” Kohli added.

Kohli was adjudged the Player of the Match Award for his brilliant 76 runs against South Africa in the final. Soon after winning the T20 World Cup 2024, Kohli announced his T20I retirement. Following Kohli’s retirement, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja also announced their retirements from the shortest format.

The legendary trio of Kohli, Rohit, and Jadeja will continue to play in other two international cricket formats as well as in the IPL.
