Why Shivam Dube has replaced Nitish Kumar Reddy in India squad for Zimbabwe T20I tour?

Nitish Kumar Reddy was impressive during IPL 2024 and had received his maiden India call-up.

Nitish Kumar Reddy’s dream of representing India has been delayed because he has been sidelined from the upcoming T20I series in Zimbabwe due to a hernia injury. All-rounder Shivam Dube has replaced Reddy in the squad, the BCCI confirmed on Wednesday, June 26.

Reddy, a 21-year-old all-rounder from Andhra Pradesh, had received his maiden call-up to the national squad for next month’s five-match T20I series in Zimbabwe, where a second-string squad filled with young and fringe players will be led by Shubman Gill, for whom this will be the first assignment as India captain.

However, Reddy will have to wait to don the national jersey as he is out with a hernia problem.

Dube is currently part of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The selectors have picked only two players – Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal – from India’s 15-man squad at the T20 World Cup for this Zimbabwe tour; Samson and Jaiswal have been on the bench throughout the tournament.

Dube has played all of India’s matches so far and made important contributions in a couple of games with the bat.

Nitish Kumar Reddy had an impressive IPL 2024 season

Reddy had a breakthrough Indian Premier League (IPL) season this year while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He scored 303 runs at a healthy strike rate of 142.92. He also bowled 13.1 overs for three wickets.

He played two terrific knocks of 64 runs off 37 balls against Punjab Kings and 76 runs off 42 balls against Rajasthan Royals. His three wickets were Rishabh Pant, Tristan Stubbs and Jitesh Sharma.

India will play Zimbabwe in five T20Is from July 6 to 14.
