Asian Games 2023: Who are medal contenders for India on Day 3, September 26?

The Indian contingent will look to add more medals on day 3 of the continental event.

India continued their good start to the Hangzhou Asian Games 2023 as they added six medals to their tally. Just like the first day, it was shooting and rowing that gave medals to Team India. The first gold of probably many in this Asian Games came from the 10m Air Rifle Team Event, as the trio of Aishwary Tomar, Rudrankksh Patil, and Divyansh broke the world record to bring home the yellow metal.

Aishwary Tomar also won a bronze in the 10m Air Rifle Individual finals. India claimed yet another bronze in shooting from the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Event. It's not the end of the bronze rain as the rowers claimed two more medals to equal India's highest medal tally in Rowing from the 2010 games. Playing true to their favorites tag, the Indian women's cricket team won the gold beating Sri Lanka by 19 runs in the final

Day 3 promises to be another medal rush day as the athletes are prepared to show their mettle and bring glory to the nation. Here are some of the medal contenders on Day 3 of Asian Games 2023.

Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh, Rythym Sangwan - Women's 25m Pistol (Individual & Team) - Shooting

Indian shooters are expected to shoot down a few more medals with none other than the 2023 World champion Manu Bhaker being the first one on the list. In fact, she shot to fame thanks to a Qualification Games Record score of 593 in the 2018 Asian Games at the tender age of 16. Unfortunately, she couldn't get a podium finish. The Haryana-born shooter would like to get things right by winning a medal in the 25m Pistol event.

Here fellow countrywomen Esha Singh and Rythym Sangwan will also be competing for a medal in the event, The trio is one of the favorites in the 25m Pistol Team event.

Angad Bajwa, Gurjoat Khangura, Anant Naruka - Men's Skeet-75 Shootgun (Individual & Team)

2021 ISSF Shooting World Cup winners Angad Bajwa and Gurjoat Khangura will have a new teammate in Anant Naruka as they aim to get a podium finish in the Men's Skeet-75 shotgun competition. The 27-year-old Bajwa would like to make amends for his disappointing show in the Tokyo Olympics.

Darshana Rathore, Parinaaz Dhaliwal, Ganemat Sekhon - Women's Skeet-75 Shotgun (Individual & Team)

Indian women will fancy their chances in the Skeet-75 event. Earlier this year, In women's skeet at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup stage in Almaty, Kazakhstan, India won two senior individual medals for the first time. Ganemat Sekhon won a silver and Darshan Rathore bagged a bronze. This event could add to India's medal tally.

Divyansh Parmar and Ramita - 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team Event

Having won medals in the Men's and Women's 10m Air Rifle Event, India would look to continue their form in the Mixed Team event. India will put forth a strong team comprising Ramita Jindal who already has a silver and a bronze in the Team & Individual category of the 10m Air Rifle Event. She will be joined by the Gold medalist Divyansh Parmar.

Bhavani Devi - Women's Sabre Individual Event - Fencing

Bhavani Devi was the first Indian fencer to compete in the Olympics when she took part in the Tokyo Summer Olympics. The Chennai-born sabre fencer has been in fine form winning the gold in the 2022 Commonwealth fencing championships. The MBA graduate knows a thing or two about recency bias and her bronze medal finish in the 2023 Asian Fencing championship could be a confidence booster when she steps her foot inside the arena.
