Harry Kane has been the all time leading goal scorer for three lions.

Harry Kane and England have booked their place in the quarterfinals of Euro 2024 after a hard-fought 2-1 comeback win against underdogs Slovakia at the Arena Auf Schalke in the round of 16.

With tournament favourites England almost on the verge of a shock early exit at the hands of Slovakia, Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham popped up with a crucial equalizer in the form of a spectacular acrobatic effort during injury time to keep his nation’s hopes alive. However, in extra time, the Three Lions showcased their superior quality, netting the winner in the 91st minute through their star striker Harry Kane to win the contest 2-1.

Heading into the knockout rounds, England had an underwhelming group stage display. Despite finishing as Group C table-toppers, their disappointing and pragmatic performances grabbed headlines. Gareth Southgate’s side kicked off their campaign with a narrow 1-0 win against Serbia, courtesy of a thumping first-half header by Jude Bellingham. This was followed by a 1-1 draw against Denmark and a dreadful goalless draw against an incredible Slovenia, ending the group stages on a substandard note.

The 2021 Euro finalists are now set to face dark horse Switzerland at the Dusseldorf Arena in the quarterfinals. After finishing second in Group A, Switzerland caused a major upset in the round of 16 by comfortably beating defending champions Italy 2-0, with goals from Remo Freuler and Ruben Vargas.

Captain Harry Kane has had a decent Euros outing so far, scoring two goals in four appearances during the competition. Kane opened his account in England’s 1-1 draw against Denmark, while his second goal of the tournament proved decisive as he bagged the winner in his side’s 2-1 triumph against Slovakia in the round of 16.

The 30-year-old forward has enjoyed an impressive international career, scoring a staggering 65 goals in just 95 caps, making him England’s all-time top scorer. During this period, he has had a good record against Switzerland, scoring two goals in four appearances against them, along with a perfect portfolio of four wins out of a possible four.

Kane’s first goal against Switzerland came in a 2-0 win during the 2016 UEFA Euro Qualifying match, where he opened the scoring for England after coming off the bench. His second goal against them came in a 2-1 comeback win during a 2022 international friendly, where he sealed the game for his team with a vital winner.

Heading into their crucial Euro 2024 quarterfinals fixture, England are still favorites to beat an in-form Switzerland and progress to the semifinal stage. Harry Kane will look to be at his goal-scoring best for such a massive game as he hopes to end the Three Lions’ dreaded trophy drought by clinching the Euros this summer.
