The competition to reach the AFC Asian Cup is strong among teams.

With the curtains closed on Round 2 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers and the 2027 AFC Asian Cup, the attention now turns to the final phase of the Asian Cup Qualifiers.

The tournament, scheduled to be held in Saudi Arabia, will feature a total of 24 teams. Among these, 21 spots have already been secured: three by the best-ranked losing teams from the first round, 18 by third and fourth-placed teams from the second round.

However, three spots remain up for grabs. To determine the final entrants, six teams will compete in playoffs. The winners of these matches will secure the remaining three spots in the qualifiers.We at Khel Now, take a look at the six teams who will play the two-legged playoffs to enter the final round of the qualifiers:

Sri Lanka vs Cambodia

Sri Lanka, defeated by Yemen in the World Cup Qualifiers first round, prepare to meet Cambodia in a playoff after a 1-4 aggregate loss. Cambodia, narrowly edged out by Pakistan 0-1, look to bounce back.

These crucial matches are scheduled for 5th and 10th September, determining which team will advance to compete for one of the three remaining spots in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers.

East Timor vs Mongolia

East Timor, also known as Timor Leste, suffered a heavy defeat to Chinese Taipei, 0-7, in the World Cup Qualifiers round one. Mongolia, meanwhile, was eliminated by Afghanistan with a 0-2 scoreline.

Both teams are set to compete in the upcoming qualifiers on the 5th and 10th of September, aiming to secure a place in the final rounds and keep their hopes alive for reaching AFC Asian Cup finals in Saudi Arabia.

Brunei vs Macau

Brunei endured a crushing defeat of 0-12 against Indonesia in the first round of the World Cup Qualifiers. Meanwhile, Macau was eliminated by Myanmar. Both teams will face each other for a place in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.
