India ended their 11-year ICC title drought after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup.

The Indian cricket team became the first team to win the men’s ICC T20 World Cup title without losing a single match in the tournament. The Rohit Sharma-led India achieved this historic feat during their T20 World Cup 2024 triumph when they defeated South Africa in the grand finale at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 29.

Rohit Sharma also became the second Indian skipper after legendary MS Dhoni to lift the T20 world title. At the 2007 edition, Dhoni won the title in South Africa by defeating arch-rivals Pakistan in the final. Under the leadership of Rohit, the Indian side ended their ICC title drought after 11 years.

Soon after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 title, three veteran Men in Blue players announced their retirement from T20Is. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their T20I retirements on June 29, whereas all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja bid adieu to the shortest format on June 30.

When will Indian cricket team return from Barbados after T20 World Cup 2024 triumph?

Since Sunday, the Indian team has been stranded in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl, which meant that all the operations in the city, including the airport, were shut down with immediate effect. The Men in Blue were told to stay in their hotel till the effects of the hurricane slowed down.

However, a piece of good news is that the Indian side will depart from Barbados via a chartered flight on July 2 (Tuesday) evening after Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley said that the airport is expected to become operational in the next 6-12 hours.

“I don’t want to speak in advance of it, but I have literally been in touch with the airport personnel and they’re doing their last checks now and we want to resume normal operations as a matter of urgency,” Mottley told PTI.

The Indian contingent is expected to leave Barbados at 6 PM local time and will land in Delhi on July 3 (Wednesday) evening at 7:45 PM IST, according to a report by ESPNcricinfo.

The Men in Blue will later be felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but the schedule for the event is yet to be finalized.
