Top 5 highest totals in women's test cricket
Only six times 500+ has been scored in women’s test cricket.
Cricket is the game of numbers, and over the years, this game has seen many incredible stats in history. Just like in test cricket, teams have registered some of the biggest totals ever. But do you know what the highest total is in women’s test cricket? Well, women’s cricket is growing rapidly.
In the history of women’s test cricket, only six times 500-run mark in an innings has been breached. Australia have done it three times, while India, New Zealand, and England have done it once. In this article, we will talk about the top five highest totals recorded in women’s test cricket.
List of Top 5 Highest Totals in Women’s Test Cricket
5. New Zealand (517/8) vs England in 1996
The highest test total by New Zealand women’s team was recorded against England in July 1996 in Scarborough. It was only the third time a women’s team crossed 500 runs in an innings in tests. England posted a big total of 414 in the first innings and New Zealand responded pretty well and went on to make 517/8 in 215 overs. In the same game, New Zealand’s Kirsty Bond became the first woman cricketer to score a double century in tests. She made 204 runs. With not much time left, that game ended in a draw.
4. Australia (525) vs India in 1984
In February 1984, for the very first time, Australia scored 500 or more in an innings in women’s test cricket. This was a test against India in Ahmedabad. India scored 343 in the first innings and Australia replied with 525 runs in 156.1 overs. Peta Verco (105), Karen Price (104*), and skipper Jill Kennare (131) scored hundreds. But, because there was not much time left in the game, it ended in a draw when India were 50/0 in the second innings.
3. India (525/4) vs South Africa in 2024
When you have one of the most destructive opening pair ever in women’s cricket, then there might not be many records that can remain unbreakable. India recorded the feat of the most runs in a single day in women’s test cricket and had a record-breaking performance in Chennai against South Africa in June 2024.
India made 525/5, where Shafali Verma slammed the fastest double century (194 balls) and Smriti Mandhana (149) scored the second-fastest test century. Both batters added 292 runs for the first wicket, which is the highest opening stand in women’s test cricket.
