Taskin Ahmed bagged eight wickets at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Veteran Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed apologized to his teammates for missing the team bus from their hotel ahead of the Super 8 clash against India at the recently-concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Eyebrows were raised when Bangladesh played with only two pacers against the Rohit Sharma-led India in their Super 8 (Group 1) match at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound in Antigua on June 22, with Taskin, who is also their T20I vice-captain, not included.

Bangladesh pacers Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Mustafizur Rahman were included in the playing XI, but their star pacer Taskin’s name wasn’t on the team-sheet. India smashed 196/5 in 20 overs and ultimately won the match by 50 runs.

Taskin Ahmed apologized to his teammates after he missed team bus

The Bangladesh pace bowler and T20 vice-captain, Taskin, apologized to his teammates for missing the team bus ahead of their clash against India. According to a report in Cricbuzz, a top Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official has confirmed that Taskin missed the team bus as he was not able to wake up on time.

“It is true that he (Taskin) joined the team later after missing the team bus. But, why he did not play only the coach can say because whether he was in the plan or not (against India) is something that can be answered by the head coach (Chandika Hathurusingha),” the official told Cricbuzz on Monday.

“If there was any issue (between coach and the player) how he played the next game against Afghanistan,” he said. “He apologized to his teammates and everyone for not being able to get up on time and that’s it and no need to make an issue out of it.”

Bangladesh’s head coach hasn’t made any comments regarding this matter yet.

Under the leadership of Najmul Hasan Shanto, Bangladesh had a good group stage campaign at the T20 World Cup 2024, as they finished second in their respective group and qualified for the Super 8 round.

However, Bangladesh couldn’t find any success in the Super 8 round and lost all three matches, finishing last in the standings.
