A total of five teams will take part in upcoming edition of the LPL.
The upcoming edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2024 will take place from July 1 to 21, where a total of five teams will fight for the glorious title.
The fifth edition of the LPL will see a total of 20 league-stage matches between five teams. It will be followed by three playoff games, and then the winner of the playoffs will play in the LPL 2024 grand finale.
In the LPL 2024, all five teams will play against each other twice in the league-stage before four franchises make it to the playoffs and one side that sits at the bottom, bows out of the tournament.
Ahead of the mega tournament, with an aim to provide more thrilling cricket action, the Lanka Premier League organizers will introduce a new feature called the ‘Power Blast.’ The new feature is all set to provide a special advantage to the batters in both innings.
“The new feature is designed to create “a more aggressive and thrilling phase of the game,” read statement from LPL.
The LPL tournament director further said that they decided to bring the new feature because it will bring further excitement to the league which is growing year by year.
“We decided to bring this innovation in order to create further excitement for the league, which is growing year by year. This new introduction is sure to generate a lot of excitement among the fans, and the teams will need to strategise effectively to make the most of this period,” Samantha Dodanwela, the LPL’s tournament director, said in the statement.
What is the new ‘Power Blast’ feature in the upcoming LPL 2024?
The newly introduced Power Blast features will be used during both innings, where additional powerplay overs will be added at the death. In the 16th and 17th overs of each innings, a team that is fielding will be allowed to field with only four fielders outside the 30-yard circle.
Earlier in the LPL, there was just one powerplay at the start of each innings during the first six overs where a team needs to keep just two fielders outside the circle.
With this new ‘Power Blast’ feature coming into play in the upcoming fifth edition of the LPL, the batting sides will have a huge advantage with just four fielders outside in the death overs (16th and 17th). In the second innings, it can also play a huge role in the result of games.
